Hopeful Children

Hopeful Children

A Poem by Silmara McGarry
"

Where there is Dream there is Hope!

"

There they are … tapping, dancing little feet

in sweet drops of silver water,

dreaming of controlling clouds as they

pretend to be colourful magical birds,

gliding across glittering skies.

Gently, rain falls on those smiling, innocent faces;

each move is so full of gracefulness;

all is forgotten for this moment …

no one can take their place.

But, where is gripping hurt, frigid tears from

yesterday, muffled echoes of growling empty

stomachs, sadness on mum’s face, affecting

uncertainty of better days?

Fractured whispering of cold wind in

sleepless nights; palpitating fear within

praying hearts; there is no hope!

Why should you revel?

Ohhh, but look at the silver drops of rain;

again, it washes away our pain.

Even if just for a moment,

we are one together -- with the rain.

Your poem is a form of homage for those wee children who suffer hard lives day after day.. whatever life throws at them. For the parents who can do nothing else but stand by, whether on filthy streets or in sterile wards - hopelessness is second to the sounds and sights of children laughing, making mockery of the dark around and inside them. You write superbly, sensitively and more. Kudos, dear friend and more.

Ohhh...many thanks indeed, Sami :-)))
How beautiful. If we could all only learn to be children again, without judgment or remorse; innocent and benign in our every venture and seeking only to enjoy our lives and enhance the lives of those around us. The very young and the very old are the closest to the angels I believe; one so freshly come from heaven and the other, so near to returning home. There is much we in between could learn from observing them.

You create such a wondrous, dreamish light in your words. Even in the darker places of the world, we can find hope, and peace, and joy rising with every reminder from every drop of rain. Beautiful!

Whether too much to desire, children are meant to have a few years of innocence before they discover that the world is full of the flaws adulthood has inflicted on it. Thank the Lord and gods that littlies are able to make believe, to climb fluffy mountains and jump in puddles and never, never come to harm.

Your poem is absolutely delightful, yet, hints strongly at how fragile life is for children.. how easy it is spoil by so-called grown.ups.

Lovely images! They do help us to forget ourselves....we take life too seriously as adults....those growling empty stomachs keep us running, hopefully to ensure one day that their minds do not remain empty :)

The imagination of children is contagious....and the scene you set is so lovely. It is true, children are often unaware of the hardships their parents endure though they are living through them. They only know they are alive...and they are happy. So lovely. Lydi**
