Lying in tepid water

Lying in tepid water

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

ongoing thoughts

"
Rifling through my pockets
picked clean
continued denials
in the face of
tears and screams.

bank accounts and credit cards
padding the grocery list
medical expenses that did not exist
theft and pawn,
accounts overdrawn.

bathing in tepid water
pretending

you were everything
you said you were.

and now my heart's
a shrivelled prune,

accustomed to soaking
in your lies.

It hurts when the ideal mate is nothing more than a crow that comes to pick at everything they can with no remorse. Like scavengers they come and leave you with nothing. Nicely done.
