her smile
frozen in time
on my fridge.

nothing will
bring her
back to me.

she will
never age
another day.

she was
happy
they said.

recounting
the moments
before she

hung herself
from her
favourite tree.

someone,
somewhere ...

will be haunted
forever by
your smile.

That's why I make it a habit of not smiling in photos taken of me. And no one will say of me, "he was so happy, how could we have missed it?"

All in all, a heartfelt piece. Well written and well ended, almost a bookend with the way you began it.

I really do hope you can smile, if only for a little while.

We'll see. I hear that things change.
So..... what can I say? I will start with the poem first, easier to talk about. Superb choice of words and structure as usual sublime the flow smooth and tones varying between sadness and reluctance. I'd say how beautifully the photograph which captured a smile fails to to show the inner torment one might be going through and is unable to cope up with in the end. Time stops or on just feels like stopping time. Still unable to believe how or why this even happened. Poignant write such strong emotions flowing throughout the write. Thank you so much for sharing. I cannot imagine what must have gone (or going through) your mind, I have asked that question myself a thousand times for that scenario myself.

the smile that hides the frown---we smile for the camera of life, because others expect that...but deep inside the film has run out---and the only exposure in the end is that we just could no longer cope...

I agree with the review below, powerful, expressive but in a soft and smooth tone. The words you chose read beautiful. Sad and thoughtful, as well, though beauty as in your words exists in everything.

It's great.
When someone young passes (for any reason under any circumstance) they are frozen in time in our minds. They never age and the memory never fades. Powerfully emotional, KL. Lydi**
