the King and Eye

the King and Eye

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the King and Eye

a liar's motif

thematically inclined to recline

away from the throne

vacant eyes tell no story

the cover up in the palace

but the King is elsewhere,

and everywhere

lest where he should be

the war is on

and no one is armed

to decipher truth from fiction

the novel's combustion

is based on a true story full of lies

foreign interference

deposits of a despot

aren't Czars a thing of the past

and is tar and feathering still a sport?

let's reintegrate it into the Olympics of Deception

our country will get the most Medals

let's not skirt the issue

Moscow wants to host

someone's molting

and the guns are twisted words

shot from a loose canon.

Waiting for Melania to address online bullying. This political situation is suffocating everything & you've expressed your views clearly & creatively. I hate that our public discourse has been hijacked. But what you've said here must be said & must be shown as the outrage it is, never to be normalized! Good message!

Great take on what must be an enormously frustrating situation for you guys over there. If I were you I think I'd have to turn the tv off for fear of going nuts.
The king is indeed elsewhere and everywhere.

thank you, Poetic Beauty.....
When you go for gold you really hit the bullseye with this shaft, Jacob. Even on this side of the big pond, the subtlety was not wasted. I imagine the straw target, however, would show little evidence of penetration of the barb. " Pen and sword" comes to mind here. ;-)

Another interesting theme, Jacob.

I really enjoyed how initially the piece appears to have a medieval setting, and evolves into a commentary of modern day politics and the deception of relations between the US and Russia. The renewal of cold war relations for the new age.

As always, well worded with great insight and a biting narrative. Well Done.

So astute- "The Olympics of Deception"! - wow! "The guns are twisted words, shot from a loose cannon." Your words ring with clarity and poetic insight.- sadly. The "Czar", the despot, with "vacant eyes"...Powerful indictment. Important portent.

poignant political barbs .. sharp and to the point ..when "Communism fell" ... it was heralded as some kind of US and Catholic victory .. my one small voice said then and i say it still ..where did you think it went?? this "Communism" ...your poem is another small voice ..which has resounded in the desert for 20 yrs as our country fails to recognize the truths in your poem ... Communism is not "dead" and it is in direct opposition to Capitalism and freedoms we enjoy in America .. I also remember the day Nikita pounded his shoe on the desk in the UN and said "they" would destroy America from within ..corrupting its youth, holding leaders up to ridicule, gaining power in the schools, the press, and by disarming citizens ... I watch this play ongoing and it tears at my heart ... we are still holding our own but I don't think it will take much to swing things so far left that we will not recover ... well stated sir ..your poem energizes me and I find hope in that

Excellent political commentary here, Jacob. The Olympics of Deception indeed...and it seems as though there are far too many professionals in this sport. LydI**

Wry and timely, and the integrating of the old Olympic rivalries (I've read some fascinating stuff about the USA '72 basketball team and how they will have no truck with their medals) is a virtuoso touch.
