A brightening skiff of fresh snow falling

Covered stark dark of Winter’s cold ground

Sleeping trees outlined by Moon’s light

Have long purple shadows in sight

Looking like a painted landscape

With nature’s artist having created the scene

Who also added brush strokes of baldness

Midst softening of wintered evergreen

Far from mankind’s selfish intrusion

Ears flicking, sharp eyes carefully probing

With Moon’s bright light painting antlers

Stag and Doe cautiously slip forward

Accessing green growth until daylight returns

Then, with her following Stag’s lead

They return to their safer, forest surround

Aware that within, she carries his seed
