The Slow River

We lay together on the slow river’s bank

Resting back while idly searching the skies

We saw rolling clouds with a sweet dab of red

Like red poppies with secrets not yet revealed

Pockets of wingtips darted first out, then in

As tho’ covers of feathers represented a sin

Sun’s warmth that we’d not felt for so long

Had heartbeats respond as tho’ chords of a song

 

Depth of your blue eyes, I admired every chance

Full lips and silk skin that make my heart dance

Soft blue of blue skies reflected by slow water

Had green riverbanks mesmerized by their sight

Two descending Geese waterskied a skiing stop

Then onto the low bank, both took an easy hop

Where would we fly had we feathered wings

With us together, here would so perfectly do

I doubt I could teach you how to write poetry but I can suggest that if you want to write, first thing would be to pick a subject, such as a walk through the woods or what you like best about clouds in a blue sky, etc. and then write about it
If that works for you, you could then try to make some lines rhyme altho' many poets write a free style that needs no rhyming.
You could also look on the internet to see what different types of poetry there are and which appeals the most.
It is too huge a subject for me to attempt to teach but, if you want, try what I suggested and see how you make out
