It rained today

It rained today

A Poem by Gee
"

How deep is your love

"
The rain came today, heavy, persistent,
filling the air with the sweet smell of parched earth.
I took deep breaths, long, slow deep breaths,
my face turned to the heavens, eyes closed,
allowing raindrops to wash over my sun dried skin.
It filled the age chiseled cracks and creases,
ran through salt and pepper stubble
before dripping from a jaw line that refuses to acknowledge the onset of age.
I smiled to myself, thought of mum and
how she always commented on our "good genes"
age defying genes she said, but mums do don't they.
In her mind I was faultless, could do no wrong,
and if I did, well, she never let on verbally
but was unable to disguise the truth in her eyes.

She has been gone 14 months now and not a day passes
where she isn't in my thoughts,
these sometimes bringing smiles, other times tears,
and of late frustration.
Frustration brought on by my inability
to clearly recall her face, her features, smile...
It's as if I'm forgetting her, as if my love wasn't deep seated enough
to carry her with me through the rest of my life,
as her love carried me through mine, and this saddens me greatly,
has tears welling...

It rained today, raindrops washing my tears through salt and pepper stubble.

dear Gee... My Mom passed at age 58 in 1978.
I keep her photo on the Refrigerator door and a few others here and there.
A Mother's and Father's love is part of our being. Your poem reflects the
Sunshine she brought to your countenance. The Memories Rain on our face and trickle into our Heart.
tenderly, Pat

Thank You kindly
I love it,
First I love the title, straight up simple, and at the same time jazzy, and this did read like the blues the pain of life cleaned by rain, which is Heaven's tears.

Hi Cherrie, thank you
Your poetry truly felt like rain. Refreshing... yet I felt the frustration and pain throughout your words. I wish we had more poetry like this, because something about it was just so nice and clean, even though it was painful. I loved it.

It was my pleasure to read such a beautiful poem. (:
Cold rain splashing with pure refreshment. I wish we had more rain where i live. When it does I feel like your words. Overjoyed and smiling ear to ear. The smell of rain coming through the windows is something that can't be matched. Awesome Gee.

Standing in the rain baring a naked soul...a heartfelt touching poem--remember, we only change form--we are never really gone...❤️

Hi Kira, thanks for dropping by :)
This was beautiful and sad at the same time. I know its late for this, but so sorry for your loss. My Mom's been gone since October of 2016. No chance that I'll ever forget her face. All I have to do is look in the mirror. She suffered from Alzheimer's, so she forgot me first. We were never very close but I still loved her. Rainy days remind me of my Dad. We were very close. He was my hero, my mentor. He liked rainy days. He liked to walk in the rain without an umbrella. He said it always reminded him of his mother. You'll never forget your Mom. She'll always be with you, just read the words you write, there's proof in the puddin'.

Thank you kindly Rhayne. It's nice you can relate to this with happy memories
You describe this torrent well and in such personal detail. Such a stuck mourning position as you still smart and fear the normality of recovery from loss. You are so lucky to have had such a close relationship with your mother but in contrast so hurt by having this bond snapped by death. The fading takes place as you absorb her memories into your very flesh Gee. Celebrate her majesty and remember this is a stage of grief.

We will see how long it lasts until KT stirs the pot by sending out attacks from my cloned page.
what a beautiful sentiment expressed and I relate to so well in this is the fear of the forgetting her face, I am so sorry for your loss, so very sorry to hear, this made me teary eyed and nostalgic, it's a beautiful tribute, as a mother I would be so proud to have this written for me, I bet she's loving it from where ever she may be thinking how perfect you are, still, even in your grief.
