Ch. 11

Ch. 11

A Chapter by Havatara

The next morning back in Prague, things were a little better. No one had died yet, and people were starting to believe Rosemary that she wasn’t going to kill them. After all, she had lived in that city for fourteen years, and there was no proof of any sort of death linked to her.

“Rosemary! You have yet another guest!” Bodoleck called up the stairs, letting someone inside. The person was small, since that person didn’t make much noise coming up the stairs.

“Sarah! It’s so good to see you! Sorry I couldn’t come to visit, but things like this happen,” said Rosemary. She was still bedridden, but she could sit up and talk now.

“That’s okay. I’m glad to see you. I had a great birthday party, even if you weren’t there,” said Sarah.

Rosemary looked suprised.

“You had a birthday? How old are you now?” Rosemary asked her.

“I’m twelve. And guess what. Leginivo came. He gave me this!” said Sarah. She set her bag down on the floor and lifted a teddy bear out of it. It was caramel colored, and had a red bow on the top of its head.

“Isn’t it adorable? I know it’s a bit immature, to have a teddy bear like this, but it was still really sweet. What do you think?” Sarah asked Rosemary.

“I like it. It’s really thoughtful of Leginivo. Aren’t you his age now?”

“Yeah. I’m really excited. We’ll be going into seventh grade next year. I can’t wait for it,” said Sarah.

“I almost forgot that I never got you a present. I’ll have to make you one,” said Rosemary.

Sarah quickly said, “That’s okay. I don’t need another present.”

“No. No. I must! Here. Hold out your hands,” ordered Rosemary. Sarah did as she was told, but was hesitant at first.

“Okay. I’m going to give you a gift that only a vampire can make. Ready?” Rosemary asked Sarah. She nodded yes, and Rosemary started the work.

Rosemary took a deep breath. She lifted her hands up in the air, and as soon as she did, a dust like substance appeared everywhere. It was silvery, and it almost swam in a circle around Rosemary’s hands. They were forming something, but it was taking a while since Rosemary wasn’t at her full power yet.

Sarah watched in amazement. It was like watching a fairy tale, but for real. She didn’t know what Rosemary was making; the dust was too think. But she knew that it was going to be great.

It took about five minutes until Rosemary put her hands down. Placed on Sarah’s palm were two lockets. They were both circles, but one had a picture of Sarah in it, and the other had a picture of Rosemary in it.

“What are they?” Sarah asked, because she knew that they looked too human to be anything ordinary.

“The one with a picture of you in it is for me, and the other is for you. They tell you where the other person is. Watch,” said Rosemary. She picked up her necklace and said to it, “Show me Sarah.”

Then, all of a sudden, a picture of the room came out of it. Sarah’s locket glowed, and when Sarah touched it, she was able to see Rosemary as well.

“Cool! So, when I need to know where you are, I can just say that to this locket?” Sarah asked Rosemary.

“That, and when you touch the side that doesn’t have the picture on it, it will say the address or street corner or even the altitude and longitude. See?” Rosemary placed her finger on the other side of the locket, and it immediately said the address of Rosemary’s house.

“Thank you so much! I love it!” yelled Sarah. Her light brown curls fell just below her shoulders, and bounced up and down when she jumped from excitement. Her gray eyes gleamed from happiness, and her fair skin was getting redder and redder, making her few freckles pop out.

“You can stop jumping now,” said Rosemary, setting her hand on her friend’s slim shoulder. Rosemary’s skin was paler than usual since she hadn’t left the house in a while. She was thinner than before, and she had taken the contacts out, seeing as people knew that she was a vampire.

“Wow. I like your eye color now. Is it normal for the left eye to be purple and the right eye to be red?” asked Sarah.

“The colors aren’t unusual, but the fact that I have both is. When you have red eyes, you’re strong. When you have purple, that allows you to see things not every vampire can see. So I’m strong, and I can see everything. Confusing?” Rosemary asked Sarah while she got out of bed to fix her black curly black hair.

“It is a little, but I guess I’m going to have to get used to everything from now on. Can you tell me what your aunt, Veripema, I think, looks like so I can be prepared?” Sarah asked.

“Yes. She has shoulder length black hair, straight, with a little shag to it, and has flaming red eyes. She has a tan, which is unusual, and she is usually wearing watery-red lipstick. She only wears black, and always wears a skull ring on the index finger of her left hand,” replied Rosemary, who paused for a second and then went over to her dresser.

It took a few minutes, but when she walked over to Sarah again she was holding a picture of Veripema in her hand.

“This is what she looks like. Scary, right?”

“Yeah. Who’s that?” asked Sarah, pointing to the woman standing next to her. The woman had short brown hair and purple eyes. She had some freckles on her nose and upper cheeks, and she had a fun smile drawn on her face.

Rosemary paused for a second. Then she replied, “That was my mother. She died after my birth. She was Veripema’s twin sister. Veripema killed her, and then my father, after my father found out that she gave birth to my half sister, Susan.”

“Um, sorry I mentioned it. Can I have Veripema’s picture? You can keep the one of your mom . . .” Sarah started.

“No. You can keep the whole thing. I have other pictures of my mom. Oh, did I forget to tell you that you can ask the locket to show you anyone?” Rosemary asked, almost pleading Sarah to change the subject.

“No you didn’t. That’s awesome! I have to go. I promised my mom I wouldn’t be too long. Bye!” said Sarah, running out the door and down the street.

Rosemary sighed. She sat back down on her bed and opened the locket. She said to it in almost a whisper, “Show me Michael.”

The locket showed her a picture of a boy with auburn hair that went just below his ears. His green eyes were laughing as he ran down the street, his short sleeved shirt showing off his tan and muscles.

‘I can’t believe that’s Michael. He looks so different now that he knows that I’m a vampire. Almost . . . happier than before. He doesn’t even know that he’s in danger now that he does,’ thought Rosemary. She closed the locket and her eyes slowly close to let her get some sleep.

Meanwhile, across the street and up in a tree with binoculars, was Veripema. She had a cruel smile on her face, showing her fangs perfectly. She drew out her bow and arrow, scribbled a note and stuck it on the arrow, and shot it to the right of Rosemary’s window, landing with a thud.

The note said:

I'm back!
