Ghazal

Ghazal

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider
"

The ghazal is a form of poetry composed of rhyming couplets and a refrain that are structurally, thematically, and emotionally autonomous.

"

Did you feel the quake tonight?
Did someone’s heart break tonight?

Come put your hand on my heart,
Come remove my ache tonight
.

Nights of parting are so tough
How much can you take tonight?

Waiting for your final word,
My life was at stake tonight.

Though you said you would not come,
What kept me awake tonight?

Wah! Wah! Great poetry, brother, a fabulous ghazal. Ghazals have always fascinated me, I write them too. You have expressed your emotions in a good manner. Excellent couplets- excellent shers. All your words rouse how very profound feelings you have and how long you can wait, how long you can endure, forbear on the gruelling path of love. Well-written, keep writing. And, if you happen to have adequate time, have a look at my ghazals and other poems.

Shabeeh Haider,
How fun! Interesting format to house the thoughts and feelings of the writer:Oh the Ghazal! Each step of love's process is seen within and identifiable. This early poem of yours was just a joy to read. Bless you much ............kathy

Hello friend this is a gorgeous example! I experimented with ghazal from a musical perspective. Not in all cases but in many they are set to music. Love this. R xo

Very well summed up, Paul
I've never been impressed by this poetic form (ghazal), but this one is definitely the best one I've ever read. This is very well-crafted with the rhyming that's happening in the 2nd line of each couplet. I really love those 2nd lines & how they tell the story, too. And also, the inquiries make this a compelling message, as we are pinned to the wall with your questions.
