My Best Friend Anorexia

My Best Friend Anorexia

A Chapter by TheConjuringCat

I stand in front of the old, dusty mirror

In the antique shop

And stare at the reflection.

I see a pale girl with long dark hair.

There are purple circles under her eyes,

Cleverly covered with makeup.

She wears a white ribbon as a headband

And there's a ring around her left thumb.

Her face is slightly gaunt,

Her hands are boney.

Her knees and elbows are covered in bruises

From flips and flops in dance class.

But she always bruised easy,

Now especially,

And trys her best to hide them.

A large bag is slung over her shoulder.

In it is a makeup bag, a hairbrush,

A wallet, a cellphone, keys.

And a journal.

That wide ruled notebook goes everywhere she does.

It has her life in it.

Daily, she sits down to record what she's eaten that day

And make plans for the next few days.

She tells of her struggles,

Of the pain the disease causes her.

She tells of how amazing it feels to

Wear a pair of jeans she hasn't been able to

Fit into in three years.

She tells about how big they're getting on her,

Even though they're size zero.

She wears jeans and a thick jumper

Over a long sleeved t-shirt.

And yet she's still cold.

Glancing over her shoulder,

She sees the store owner take a sip of Coke

And wonders what it tastes like.

She doesn't remember.

Holding a hand to her empty stomach,

She turns to face the mirror again.

Coke may taste good, but the diet stuff will have to do

Because empty tastes better

To someone like her.

She almost frowns at her reflection.

What's wrong with her? she wonders.

She's done everything Ana said

And yet, she's still not pretty enough.

Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear,

She turns her back to the mirror.

It never shows what she wants to see.

Will it ever?

I honestly doesn't know.

Is that what that notebook you had today was?

And I'm praying for you everyday. I hope that we can get through out problems together.
