toothpaste and soap is a weird title for a love poem

toothpaste and soap is a weird title for a love poem

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

the little things

"
the eyes are the mirror
of the soul,
or so they say --
I note your sparkle,
and hope
it's for me.

yours are the
brightest side
of blue.

but also
I see,
my brand of toothpaste,
and my preferred soap.
the fluffy towel,
you always hand to me.

your ears are
patient
and kissable,

but also,
I hear
the gentle
when you say my name;
the way you call it
"my side" of your bed.

your touch is
rough,
and tender,

but also,
I feel it,
in the way
you bend
to make sure
I don't break.

it isn't in
the words
you say.

it's the little things
you do,
that make it clear
that sparkle blue,
is just
for me.

A interesting title but very appropriate... too often we take for granted the things our loved one does for us. And tis true that it is not what we say but what we do that shows the true feelings of others.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
Truly one of your all-time best poems! This is delicious & delicate & honest & touching. You've crafted an everyday morning scene with the lightest touch of sweetness & tons of specific visuals.

Wow! I would be blown away if someone wrote a poem like this for me, so your guy is one lucky fellow, altho I know you think it's the other way around! *smile* (((HUGS))) Thanks for sharing your simple joys.

Aww thanks, I suppose he's pretty lucky.
How beautiful this is. It is indeed those 'little things' that have the greatest impact and mean the most.

Simply lovely.

thank you, that is very nice of you to say.
One of the gentlest and most tender love poems I have ever read. It is the little things and when they are missing, it is not real love. Kudos to you for this one, KL...fantastic! Lydi**

Thank you for that. That is one heck of a compliment, coming from you. :)
Definetly the little things that count.
Does she wash her own plate?
Does she smile at you even when you're not in the mood, especially when you're not in the mood.
Does she tell you about her troubles for two hours, but always remember to ask how was your day before starting? (Because she knows her story is longer, lol.)

Honest, truthful poem.
Good job KL.

I find your writing tiptoeing on a soft edge, as though your ink only knows whispers. My kindness surely knows great writing. Bravo!

: )
"the way you bend to make sure i don't break"

damn i love that line.

the rough and the tender in combination... makes it hard to get bored with this kind of love.
you take the ordinary and show how real love can make it extra-ordinary.

I am so glad it comes across that way
I was told by someone close (or use to be close) that you can tell so much by how a person leaves the soap. do they wash it clean under cold water after use? or do they leave it dirty and sudsy in the soap dish? the latter would mean you simply understand the purpose of bar soap in the first place....to ostensible get your hands clean of course. but the first holds all the clues of your secret, neat side
like the lexicon of another, relatively similar person. I don't believe such bullshit. I believe that
people can learn to be gentle and then after they learn it, spell it out to you; kiss it to your need for
such sustenance.

this is proof......you write so beautifully......dana
