Without Conditions

Without Conditions

A Poem by Chris Shaw

I love you most for your imperfections
and even more for those major flaws.

I can hold them like a spring bouquet
that you gave to me in early May,
wilted and torn, worn from the chill of winds.

Yet I'd gladly take those blooms
regardless that their stems are bent,
regardless that they're broken
and more so as they've lost their scent
for they are but a token.

They remind me of me,
quite often in a boat at sea,
struggling to stay afloat.

Quite often perceiving simplicity
as complex,
it's the wiring of me,
the way my brain functions.
I have my flaws too,
but my doors remain open,
accessible and true.

You always amaze me with your ability to express with a powerful impact yet with simplicity of words, I find here my poem "the lyrics" gentle at times, tough at times, easy at times, complicated, cold at times, warm in another... my smile didn't leave my face from the line one until the last, the essence of love that flowed through was pure and genuine. Thank You my dearest Chris for keep sharing your "perfection" poetry with us.

I relate so much to your words Chris. I being an open and giving person, always expect the same in return but expectations have often lead to disappointment and everyone is not as forthcoming with their feelings and emotions as us. We are honest and vulnerable about are flaws but not everyone else is. And it is most hurtful when we give all of us yet a significant other holds back. Beautifully expressed.

It is painful when we reach out to the fullest and yet our efforts and feelings are not reciprocated. "a boat at sea, struggling to stay afloat" is so heart-breaking. I sense the sadness in your words...

Thank you so much. You have made me smile :)
flaws are what makes all of us beautiful...imperfection is perfection...and when our expectations only include us loving no matter what or whom...that is being wired with a kind and giving spirit.

Always my pleasure and you are welcome dear Chris.
i too am not sure about who it is , but often it is the flaws or quirky things that attract us to others.

This must be someone who you loved unconditionally , a lover or even a parent ... but the wiring for all its eccentricity still sends and receives messages so that is all that matters...

wow I cant figure out if this is you talking to yourself or you talking to another but i guess it doesn't matter for it is a beautiful set of thoughts... but the funny thing is it could be me talking to myself too:) I have a defective brain too... i miss the simple things quite often and when your processing is like that its hard to keep that door open for fear of the past mistakes. Very beautiful set of thoughts here Chris
