Twisted Mask (Thoughts Of A True Madman)

Twisted Mask (Thoughts Of A True Madman)

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

Inspired by my favorite book Phantom Of The Opera.

"

These catwalks have become

A sanctuary for my shadow

To roam free from torment

As I keep a steady eye

On the unsuspecting characters

In my twisted play.

How can those pitiful fools

Believe they own the stage

When it is I,

With my own sweat and blood

That made this place

What it is

What I want it to be.

Soon they will learn

Or it will be

Their blood

That will become

My lifeline.

The night is my only friend

For it is when my music

Takes flight

Blissfully echoing

Through the corridors

Sung by my greatest creation…

Christine… the one who will love me forever

Because she owes me…

As do the rest of these ungrateful fools.

Wait who is this insolent boy

Who courts my lady’s affections

Oh when will they learn

That to betray me

Means the hangman’s noose.

This cannot be…

How can she be?

It isn’t possible.

Her love belongs to

ME!!

This will never happen

For I won’t let it be…

If he wants her so bad

And she desires him

Then the choice is clear.

If I can't capture her heart

Then I must steal her…

Oh and let her charming hero

Come after her and he’ll be the martyr

In my torture chamber.

Someday they will learn

Yes someday they will see…

That this is my world

They are living in

And if they refuse to bow to my religion

Then they can burn in my hell.

Consider me nothing more than

A Phantom…

When in reality I am

The GOD of this Opera House.

This is inspired by my favorite book Phantom Of The Opera... it takes a look through the eyes of the phantom as I see it. I hope you enjoy my interpretation.

Wow! Amazing I was reading as if the Phantom was behind me and I can just hear that booming voice resonating in the corridors of the theater. Chilling yet very powerful a true masterpiece. Brilliant being a fan of Phantom of the Opera fan myself I truly loved it.

Wow! First of all, I love Phantom Of The Opera! It's one of my favorites.
This poem was brilliant. It really, really shows the phantom's thoughts.

"Oh and let her charming hero
Come after her and he'll be the martyr
In my torture chamber."

One of my favorite parts. Another great write!

And, yes I do enjoy your interpretation! Oh, the music from the play is divine.......the book is even more majestic!
Good job Dale of putting this into your own words as the Phantom would view his life, his love, the opera, all of his all!

This is a wonderful poem.
I can say, that I have never read or seen Phantom of the Opera [Although I want to], but just reading this gives a very good description of the kind of character the Phantom really is. Seems like the kind of thing I would read actually, I may have to look into it.
Anyway, keep on writing, this was great!

Nice work. I was lucky enough to see this in DC at the theatre and I was so close that during the production when they dropped the chandelier into the audience it nearly took my head off! I love the soundtrack too. Nice interpretation. Thank you for sharing.

WONDERFUL! a well-crafted poem. descriptive, and written so well. i saw "phantom of the opera" in movie, and i thought it was a very intense and passionate story. a phantom who despises himself who lives underground, under the opera house, and lusts after one particular beautiful woman. very dramatic, which i love. and your poem epitomizes the phantom of the opera very well!

First person narratives are interesting to me because the writer takes on the persona of the character. Living, breathing, and becoming one with the imaginary flesh so to speak. The more one becomes involved the more brevity their writing has; as you have shown us with this masculine yet darkly cavalier poem.
