A Poem by Zoya

I saw you bury
pieces of your soul
in the strange roads
you took to your home

there was a part of you
in the flowers you chose to sniff
and another part in the
flowers you adored from a distance

bits of you lay
in the amount of tea
you left undrunk every evening
in the way your hair
played with the winds on a lazy day
in the way you whispered
kind words to yourself
when nobody was watching

and I couldn't help but discover you
piece by piece

it was like
following hyperlinks
all the way to your heart

and I didn't even know

Funny how you can sneak such emotion in your words when the work is so simple. This is one of the best poems I've read in a long time. You were able to say a lot by saying very little. You were able to be full of powerful imagery while still being indirect. I'll be rereading this poem for some time.

So much more is said than what is written, and though I don't know who this is about, I feel like every stanza was a piece by piece understanding of who they are. I feel like I've watched the skeleton of a stranger piece themselves together, bone by brittle bone, and though I cannot see their face, I see what makes them who they are. We really do forget how much of us goes into every breath we take, sometimes.

Keep noting the beautiful, little things about people. You have a wonderful way of painting them with your poems. :)

That is the way we get to know people in tiny bits gradually part by part learn their ways.
