Personalize it!

Personalize it!

A Lesson by Camille Corbett

For no one likes the wannabe.

Hello my nymphets! It's time to teach you a little lesson called : developing a voice. For you see, all of us are different people, therefore, we all should have our very own unique voice! Writing is not like speaking where you can copy someone else's voice and still sound distinguished or intriguing, no my dearies in writing if you do so, you will sound strained, fake, and just generally horrible. So don't do it! I know how very tempting it can be, to read a book with an author whose style has been perfected, and think perhaps if you were to try to sound like them, you would be as good as them, however, that is wrong. What you must do is refine your own style,  and to do that I shall help you. If you are already subscribed to my course, you may have been doing "word vomit", for you newcomers I would like you to start. So, go back to this course's homepage and click on that lesson and do it, then come back a week later and look at this one, it is better to pace yourself with these lessons just for the sake of natural progression. Okay, for my current students I want you to know that for the next 4 or 5 weeks I shall be giving lessons on personalizing your writing. In truth voice development is never over, so if you are an long time writer, I'm sure my instructions will be beneficial as well, if not, you can message me and send me some tips that help you with your voice development. I understand this really isn't a lesson but a forewarning, but I wanted to let my students understand what I wish to help them improve on. Hopefully we all will become better writers after this.

please go over your grammar rules, camille. i am mentally cringing at the amount of comma splices I have witnessed in these few lessons. I like your tips, but your grammar is killing me.

I experienced a paroxysm of amusement at being referred to as a nymphet... yes, I know that it was general... but I am 60 and male! To conjure a mental image of myself as a 'nymphet'... Really very funny!

I remember hearing somewhere that "Copies can never reach the original" i find this to be very true.
