Anna Louise is a slight and sparkle-eyed ten year old girl in Lexington, Ky. The year is 1862 and Christmas is coming. She narrates her adventures through this work that will explore the effects of the American Civil War on the lives of women and children at home.

 

And when I say adventures, well, the child is surely always in trouble for one thing or another. She lives in a home with her mother and grandmother and younger sister. Her mother's sister has joined the household for the time being, as well.

 

The story is part town gossip, part making the most of the cirumstances which you are dealt, and part pure joy.

 

I hope Anna's adventures will make you smile.
