away from paradise (chapter two)

Here is a small fact: You are going to die. Most take fear in this fact, while a select few take the utmost comfort in it. Our main character, the boy, is one of those few. Quite telling, no? I feel as if referring to him as the boy is getting rather tiring, so we'll call him Alex. Call him? Is what you're probably thinking, Is Alex not his real name? Of course it isn't, blundering fools. Would I really tell you that? Now, Alex was in his sister's room, feasting on his very healthy meal of ice cream for breakfast, his brother, sporting a new bruise on his face from the act, standing in front of the vanity, messing around with his sister's makeup to cover it. The sister was nowhere to be found, already off to who knows where, as per usu- "Another day in paradise, right, Ben? Alex?" My brain immediately snapped to attention, ditching the third person observations "Mhmm." Top tier conversation skills, me. "Are you ready to try and get off this place, L? Or are you still going to whine about being able to fix everything?" He won't respond well to that, but it's already out there. He quickly and snidely hissed "Oh, I suppose you're ready to give up on everything, like usual?" Harsh, but well deserved. He thinks that bothers me. I calmly reply after a moment "Of course," which earned me a glare. Liam used to be the most fragile of us. He still is when you get him in the right places, I suppose. He sighed, tucking sister's makeup back into the vanity, so he can pretend it never happened. That's what he does. It's sickeningly comforting in a way. You don't have to worry about him nearly as much as everyone else. Alex, but you know that means you have to worry about him more. Shush. By the time I say something else, the unbearable silence has already manifested itself, but of course I have to say something. I always say something, because my brain is meant for music, and music is never silence
