Orange Spiced Cake

If you haven't had it, you are really missing out.

A perfect blend of sweet, sour, zest, and spice

  I don’t like cake; well, except for this slice

It’s all about balance, perfectly aligned

  Just the right blend that I could never find

“Why would I ever want someone like you?

           A lass so simple, you haven’t a clue.”

But to me, everything is simply just right;

     How could I ever not want one more bite?

From your sharp wit and sass, to your freckles

  So admit it already

     You are special

 

     At least to the me,

Who needs more than a mere

        Pan Tres Leches.

i was into making cheese cake for a while back when .. the most memorable was an orange cheese cake .. i kind of made up recipes as i went and this one was perfect (to me)
great trip to the bakery .. a little different poem for you isn't it?

What a brave and honest feeling. I have very little knowledge, practically non - exsistent when it comes to writing but your poem took me back when I was standing at the altar and "that" guy was reading words and at some point he says "to have and to hold" and internally I was what does that even mean? Not the most appropriate moment to stop and say excuse me what is the meaning behind that passage?

But if he would have said to me here mate read this poem

Here is the recipe I usually use; I can also provide a 'from scratch' recipe... but it is not really worth the extra time, in my personal opinion.
1 pkg of Yellow Cake Mix (I usually go with Betty Crocker)
1 small pkg of orange Jello
4 eggs
3/4 cup Oil
1 1/4 Cup Water
2 Oranges worth of zest, simply grate the skin; it will give it a deeper taste
1 teaspoon of Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of cloves
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon of all-spice

Beat all this together for 4 minutes or so.

Pour into one of those larger pans I used, and cook it at around 350*F until it is golden brown. It is usually around 20 minutes. (But I live at a higher altitude, so things take longer to cook)

Pull it out, and then poke it all over with a fork. Then pour the glaze over it while it is still hot.

Glaze is....

2 Cups Powdered Sugar
1/3 Cup Orange or Tangerine Juice.
1 teaspoon of molasses
1/2 teaspoon of Cinnamon

Let it cool a bit (or else it will fall apart on you) and it should be good to go.

I write several different styles; but I usually only share the serious stuff. Just a question of how I want my 'portfolio' to represent me. Although there is no denying that this is one of my more personal pieces.

I hear you, I deal in emotions rather than technicalities so I need a certain mindset for that...I'm just waiting for that mindset to resurface ;)

I am one of those people who never has writer's block, when the pen touches paper, it always flows. But two things do hinder me... #1, I have an erratic sleep schedule and biorhythm, I am not always feeling aware enough to want to write... I have to be in the mood, even if I do tend to be a more technical not emotive writer.. #2, For some ideas, I spend a night 'meditating' on them before I write them; because I want the ideas organized first. By meditating, I mean just thinking over them while I work (physical repetitive labor which tends to put you into a somewhat meditative state.)

Yeah, it is usually called Tres Leches (I added the full name for the sake of meter); maybe it is only because I live in a heavily Hispanic area that I am familiar with this type of cake.

People with natural talent don't generally have to think over their work much; what they want, and sometimes more, manages to just flow from the pen. Honestly, the only poem I have that was not written in like thirty minutes or less was "As the Phoenix Flies"; that was only because of its complexity. Its funny, because when I was writing this, I was just writing each line as I went, just feeling for each rhyme. Then I looked over it, and all but two of the lines were already conforming to meter. >_< I felt like some dork who had escaped from years at the Renaissance Faire, stuck speaking only in iambic pentameter.

Thanks for sharing. I assume here the titular cake is an analogue to the perfect girl. A girl who might not be perfect for someone else, but astonishingly is just right for the poet. A girl who surpasses the common recipe found on the condensed milk can.

Precisely; too many people want to be perfect, even if it is an illusion. You can always ask, "Why not someone funnier, better looking, someone who has more to offer." But much like a cake, too much of any one ingredient, or too little, can ruin the whole thing. It is rare to find someone that has that perfect 'recipe'; and yet they all too often don't see it the same way. Thank You for reading.
