'I Walk With My Eyes Closed'

'I Walk With My Eyes Closed'

A Chapter by Raef C. Boylan

I walk with my eyes closed,

groping at furniture memories;

practicing

for the curse I always knew

would befall me.

Empathising through imitation;

a compassion

they will never witness,

so you suppose it useless

but it invokes gratitude

when, stumbling,

lashes override, yanking the light back in.

Fear of fate lingers like carcinogenic

smoke, choking me in swirling

ultimatums and deals

with gods, abandoned for good

some fourteen years ago.

dread..of what can happen, or dread of what is certain...is reflected very nicely here....I had no problem with getting the point of this piece...However...every perception is important...every perception counts...I love the metaphoric content...alluding to

"groping at furniture memories;

practicing

for the curse I always knew

would befall me.

because this is so easily identifiable....I loved the way you penned this part

and

Fear of fate lingers like carcinogenic

smoke, choking me in swirling

ultimatums and deals

with gods,

because this is a human action...and we have all been there......well done...well written...very well defined....I love the depth here.....a reader had to pay attention here- Sassy

Very emotionally in depth..........challenging to read, but feels as if the past follows you, and that you hide from not yourself, no, but others who cannot know the real you............maybe I am all mixed up!
I dont know Blunkett, so thats no help...............but thought provoking piece probably personal to you.

I've never read Blunkett, never heard of Blunkett actually. But at lunch, when I'm outside walking for fresh air and sunshine--I close my eyes and feel the sun on my face. I like to see far I can go without having to look where I am. I'm not very brave somedays.

And I type with my eyes closed--when my thoughts are faster than my fingers. Watching the monitor just seems to interfere with everything.
