Algebra

A Chapter by Kenneth The Poet

The contradiction
of location, the abstract
quark filling up the
continuum, starting at
the center, double zero

In all directions,
the flattest tier called the plane,
simplest patterns are
up-and-down and left-to-right,
the main axes are now born

The undefined terms
called point, line and plane are the
bases for starting,
analyzing the Forms through
generalized abstraction

The symbols come out,
designated shorthand for
tracking amounts in
a consistent, unified
manner by the same increase

The pairs, binary
nature of categories,
measuring distance
and direction uniform
from the double zero point

Any direction
from the double zero point,
the continuum
is solid and patterns come
about in an angled form

Two numbered pairs called
points make the line and the spread
between the rays, horizon
and not, is known as the slope
or the grade, which can be made

Slope is analyzed
in fraction form, vertical
over horizontal change,
both changes are uniform,
positive or negative

And now abstraction
become more complex since change
fails to be constant,
variation symbolized
by alphabetic markings

Comparing right to
up and left to down with the
slope and an extra
constant is an equation,
linear type, first degree

And then reality,
tangible practice, enters
in under the glass,
relationships modeled in
many diverse life packets

Buying events are
the best examples of that
type, connecting things
one-to-one in some fashion,
positive or negative

Yet, not all patterns
follow the linear type,
some continuums
follow curvatures that are
defined by higher degrees

Apollonius,
the great Greek geometer,
discovered that a
circle can be squared within
the context so symbolic

The plane cuts the cone
perpendicular to the
axis creating
the thing that cannot be squared
by the compass and straightedge

When planes are tilted
compared to the axis, born
is the non-circle,
the conic section that has
dual foci fixed in place

When the plane cuts the
cone only once, born is the
conic section that
is a curve that is constant,
equal from focus and line

This curve is the stone,
the foundational piece for
completing the square
and axial symmetry
and aluminum method

The symmetry is
always perfect and that line
is equidistant
from both axis intercepts,
a beautiful work of art

The plane intersects
the cone rightly and truly,
born is the section
of two pieces, both foci
are outward and not inward

Two of the sections
are of an eccentric sort,
the distances from
both foci are held constant,
either sum of difference

Of course, not ev’ry
topic falls into the real
of reality,
complexity comes about
through the imagination

The all-seeing eye
is the root of all things with
powers beyond our
mere comprehension, and they
are tackled with heavy tools

From roots of three and
four, men can scratch out the truth
but once the fifth is
reached, the curtain falls onto
the methods found by giants

The graphing methods
does not fail as an asset,
it is worthy of
use with any challenging
computation, it is good

And so it stays with
as new yet odd and funny
life forms are found by
us, the explorers with minds
that thirst for any knowledge

The circle brings forth
new functions and new concepts,
a new, epic kind
of transcendence yet the old
language remains all useful

Even the conic
sibling births new transcendence,
functions that speak of
growth like money and cancer,
decay like radiation

And the list goes on
from there and it breaks away
the curves into the
straightness of other functions,
be them one-to-one or not

At that point, the grid
itself is the master of
this flat universe,
vertical, horizontal
determine the nature

This is the bedrock
on which the universe has
become descriptive,
the algebra of nature
is now in the rule of threes
