Hunger

Hunger

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

the games you hunger for
keep the population in check
like black and white pawns in
the front rows on the sixty-four
board, but if the playbook is not
followed then somebody must die
and the state remains in power
because the citizenry is
desensitized to the concepts of
equality, liberty, fraternity,
a kind-of North Korea borne from
the ashes of North America,
and how often do rebellions
actually occur in the nations
with repressive regimes?

making martyrs of them
should not be a point of
contention, of debate even,

threats like this do not exist

Once upon a time I wrote a poem entitled 'terror torture bomb kill sexy (for the good of the species)'. The result was the police knocking at my door and hauling me off for a psych evaluation, which I failed and was promptly incarcerated in a mental hospital. Just sayin' - watch how far you tread along certain paths, because your rights don't mean s**t.

The poem is strong and true. People with strong voices and actions can be in trouble today. People ask me to stand for the right. I tell them being a martyrs today don't mean much. I try to be polite not to draw attention. I like the ending. World is changing and few of us are prepared. A powerful opening chapter. Made me think.
