Chapter 7- Lacy

Chapter 7- Lacy

A Chapter by Alisha Heistand

Some time has passed and it's after Mid-Year Exams. Lacy didn't mind them, she thought they were easy, but maybe it was just her. It was the middle of 3rd quarter and lunch with Tara became easier. It was still awkward, but Morgan seemed to be okay with it. It still didn't eviscerate the feeling of discomfort that Lacy got from Tara. There was just something...off about her that she didn't like. Lacy liked to think of herself as a pretty good judge of character and a good person, so she thought about telling Morgan.
Maybe tomorrow, if Tara's not around I'll tell her Lacy thought to herself.
Then Tara's voice cut through her thoughts.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?" she asked impatiently
Lacy was caught in the middle of the hallway, so she moved to the side with Tara.
"Hi Tara, what's up?" she asked
"You know very well 'what's up' Lacy. Morgan doesn't shut up about how great you are and how sad she is that you two don't have any classes together. Plus she sounds all...grumpy." Tara said

Oh......Kay?
"Well....shouldn't you tell Morgan you have a problem with it and not me? I mean, I don't get why you're coming to me for-"
"Because, you princess, you're ruining my friendship with her." Tara cut in
Well you're in a pleasant mood, as usual. *Sigh* remain positive, remain positive... Lacy thought
"Well I'm sorry Tara, I would never mean to do that. But did you ever stop and think that Morgan's snippy mood is because she's tired? She is doing your homework, after all. I've seen your papers in her bag and it isn't right of you to do that to her. She has enough to worry about." Lacy countered
Well maybe if you knew what I go through, you'd understand. But no, maybe not since after all you have the perfect home life. Tara thought
"Well it doesn't seem like she minds, so how about you not worry about Morgan being tired." Tara shot back
Okay, this girl is seriously some bad news. I've got to tell Morgan... Lacy thought

As Lacy was getting on the bus that afternoon, she noticed none other than Tara with some upperclassmen just on the outskirts of the school grounds. She was smoking.
Smoking.

The next morning, Lacy caught up with Morgan in the hallway. She had to tell her about Tara's bad habits; she was just looking out for her. Lacy didn't want her to get roped into any of that and really wanted to protect her from it.
"Hey Morgan" Lacy said
Morgan was standing outside her history class waiting for the teacher to arrive, looking very tired. She had circles under her eyes and looked as if she could fall asleep on command.
"Hi...if you love me, you'll hit me on the head with a hammer so I can sleep." She said
"Aww, I love ya but you know I can't do that." Lacy replied
"mmmmmh."
I hate what Tara's doing to you. No one deserves this.
"So I wanted to talk to you about Tara.." she began
"Sure, what's u-oooh. Um, here she comes..." Morgan said
Lacy turned to see Tara on her way to the classroom with an energy drink in her hand and a pair of death eyes for Lacy.
"Heyyyy guys!" Tara giggled
Giggled?! Wait...wait...

"Um...Tara? You okay? Extra tired or something?" Lacy asked
"Do I look tired? No. So, no. I'm fiiiine" Tara said. Then she looked at Morgan and as the teacher came to unlock the door, Tara turned away. Morgan nudged Lacy and mouthed 'Tara's high'.
You're kidding me, right?
Lacy gave her a look saying "Doubt it."
"Watch." Morgan said "Hey Tara, did you...y'know, Have some this morning?"
"Duhhh. Good job Sherlock. Here, you can finish this." She said as she gave the rest of the energy drink to Morgan. The warning bell rang and Morgan mumbled she'd talk to Lacy later.
