Chapter Twenty one : (Primping)A Chapter by Tabitha tChapter: 21(primping) “Oh no way!” I gasped. “I am not wearing that!” I backed my way out of the bathroom. Hands in front of my body like a shield. Jennifer frowned deeply as she came at me waving around a slinky light blue dress out towards me like a weapon. “Come on Evidently, Once she was done with my hair and satisfied that I indeed looked like a girl she then sat me down in front of the mirrored armoire and began to paint on a thick layer of makeup onto my face. As she smeared and tweezed my face, I tried to sit motionless and not move. Her face was a mask of utter concentration. Her movements were fast and precise. I had a feeling that if Jennifer wasn’t a part of the Guild and being raised to fight an inevitable battle over good and evil that she would be perfectly happy and successful in the fashion industry. I raised my hands in surrender. “Okay, I’ll try it on.” I agreed reluctantly as I grabbed the hanger from her hands and stalked my way back into the bathroom. I quickly threw my robe down on the floor around my feet and pulled the dress on over my head. As I twisted my garment down over my waist and felt the material stop around mid thigh I winced. “I can’t wear this!” I complained as I re entered the bedroom. Jennifer ignored my statement as she began to smile broadly and clapped her hands together as she danced in place. “Oh! You look so great!” She said excitedly as she bounded towards me. She readjusted the straps around my shoulders and fluffed my hair back around my shoulders. “Come look!” She smiled as she grabbed my wrist and dragged me in front of the mirror. I gasped in surprise. I had never in my entire life been one of those girls that when I walked into a room all eyes turned in my direction. I had never spent hours in the bathroom getting ready to go out and I had never worn a lot of make up. I was normal and I was easily over looked. The girl who stared back at me from the other side of the mirror on the other hand was someone else entirely. Beautiful golden blonde hair flowed smoothly in light waves down my back. It glimmered as the light played across it as I turned my head to each side. My face was glowing. You couldn’t even tell I was wearing make up but my skin looked flawless and my eyes seemed so standout against the cool contrast of my skin. The dress that I was wearing hung tightly down my body, showing the slow curve of my hips. Long legs flowed past the hem of the dress. I looked like my brother for the first time in my life. “Oh my gosh Jennifer! You are a miracle worker! I squealed as I hugged her around the neck. “Hey don’t mess up your hair! She protested as she backed away from me and began to look for anything I might have ruined. “I didn’t give you anything you didn’t already have “I just showed it off a little bit more.” She said as she grinned over at me and began putting her things back into a bag she had brought with her. “Oh I almost forgot!” She squealed as she ran across the room and grabbed a small box. “Here, you can’t go anywhere until you have a nice pair of shoes can you?” She laughed as she set the box down on the edge of the bed. She opened the box quickly and produced a pair of beautiful yet dangerous pair of heels. They were a vibrant glossy silver color with thin straps and three inch heels. I highly doubt I had ever worn heels out in public before. “I will kill myself in those!” I grimaced down at them still in her hands. “Good,” she laughed again. “That means he will have to catch you as you fall.” She lifted an eyebrow devilishly. “Could become quiet romantic don’t you think?” We both looked up as we heard a knock come softly from the door. I stood there for a moment not quiet sure what to do. I’m sure my face screamed anxiety. “Go answer the door!” Jennifer whispered to me while waving me off with her hands. I stumbled my way to the door and hesitated for a slight queasy moment before opening the door. There was Nicholas. He grinned down at me. He was wearing tan slacks and a white button up shirt. He hadn’t buttoned the top two buttons of the shirt. Dark tan skin showed from under a thick chain that hung around his neck. The chain was holding the same seal that was sewn onto the robes of the high council. I stepped back from the door way and let Nick enter into the room. “You look lovely Maddy.” Nicholas smiled gently as he brought his arm out of behind his back. He was holding a small delicate bouquet of daisies. “Oh they are so pretty!” I crooned as I took the bundle from him and smelled the light sweet perfume of the flowers as I took them and placed them on the dresser. “Thank you Nicholas. They are perfect.” I smiled up at him. “I had a feeling they would be.” He said as he took my arm in his. “Are you ready to go?” He asked as he turned towards the still open door. “Sure,” I chuckled slightly. “Let’s do this.” We exited the room side by side. We began to laugh together as we heard Jennifer shout from still inside my room. “Have fun kids! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!” I had totally forgotten about her once Nicholas had gotten there. I would have to remind myself to let her know how much I appreciated what she had done for me. She had turned me into a rose that night. Even If I still acted like a daisy. © 2012 Tabitha t |
