Faking it with depression

Smile while everyone watches,

Laugh when they can hear you.

Talk like your life is the greatest,

Even if it’s all just crap.

Trying to be what people think is my normal,

But it’s all just an act to please them.

It’s not like they’ll know the difference,

Not like they’d care enough to take the time to notice.

Even if they did,

Are you really that naive as to think

They’d even attempt to help me?

They’ve known me for a long while,

But they just watched as my life continued to spiral downhill.

They didn’t even try to catch me as I fell,

And now I’m in over my head.

I’m in this all alone,

No one to cheer me on.

There’s still no one at home,

And people wonder why I am the way I am.

If you knew what I’ve been through,

Then maybe you’d understand.

If you could only open your eyes,

Then maybe you’d see the real me.

My thoughts and emotions I must keep,

Under lock and key.

Until someone is able to set me free,

I’ll just plaster on a smile,

And live my life day after painful day.
