Zachary Taylor ( President #12) (1849-1850)

A Chapter by MandaBear
"

Twelfth President of the United States of America

"
Zachary Taylor was number 12.
His nickname was old rough and ready.
He had spend 25 years on the frontier.
He also had victory in battles.
Zachary Taylor served as general in the Mexican war.
He had once threatened to use the military force to settle the debate on slavery.
He never got to though.
His presidency only lasted 16 months.
He never voted for a president.
It was said because of this loyalty as a solider to stay out of and above politics.
Zachary Taylor was second cousin to James Madison.
Fourth cousin to Robert E Lee.
Zachary Taylor was also said to be related to FDR.
He was related to many of the Presidents.
Kind of cool isn't it?
Interesting since he never voted for any.
Zachary Taylor was only in office a year and 4 months before he died,
It was said he ate a big bowl of cherries and drank a pitcher of iced milk.
He died 5 days later of sunstroke? food poisoning? No one knows.
I knew cherries were bad.
There is Zachary Taylor.
A war hero,
A president,
Died by cherry.

Not the most interesting president, was he? The death by cherry did make me chuckle, though. :)

Is this for a school project? It's absolutely interesting. Let me know when you get to 16! Abraham Lincoln is by far one of my favorite historical icons.
