Benjamin Harrison (President #23) (1889-1893)

A Chapter by MandaBear
"

Twenty- Third President of the United States of America

"
Benjamin Harrison is number 23.
Did you know he was afraid of electricity?
He wouldn't touch the switches.
The white house -the first motel 6. (they'll leave the lights on for you)

Benjamin Harrison is the grandson of William Henry Harrison. (#9)
His grandfather was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
He was second of eight children.
His nice name was little Ben for being 5'6.

Benjamin Harrison's first wife died from unknown causes.
So he married his late wife's niece.
She was not blood related but the first cousin to his children.
His children didn't attend the wedding and his daughter never spoke to him again.

Benjamin Harrison was the first to have a Christmas tree in the white house.
He also had his voice preserved a 36 second speech.
It was recorded on a wax phonograph.
He is the only one that recorded his voice from that time.

Benjamin Harrison, Boy did he like to talk.
In one month he made 140 completely different speeches.
I wonder if he took lessons from Franklin Pierce?
I guess no one could ask him Cat got your tongue?

Benjamin Harrison fought in the war.(Surprised? Neither am I)
He fought for Native American and Civil war Veterans rights.
He was an avid trust buster.(helped stop monopolies and no not the game)
He even had six new states join the union. (more than any other president)

Benjamin Harrison had a stocky frame, reddish beard, and blue eyes.
They used to say he was cold and ridged.
He was called the Human Iceberg.
Can anyone say "Ice Ice Baby"?

Benjamin Harrison entered the presidency on March 4th 1889.
He left on March 4th 1893.
He later died of pneumonia.
Since he liked talking, I wonder if his tomb stone said "Whatcha talking about Harrison?"

Made it all the way to Harrison! Thank you for not dwelling too long on Lincoln. Everyone knows about him. Anyway, I've enjoyed the presidents up to this point and I can't wait to finish.
