Paper chains

Paper chains

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

yeah yeah yeah look away if you don't like it.

"
wrap
me up in paper chains
and fool's gold
it won't change a thing.

vows
on paper you forgot
while you cursed and
spit and bellowed --

lies
on paper; promises
you made and broke
like brittle toothpicks

ties
on paper cannot bind me;
keep me from doing
what I want to

funny
how you now want
a piece of paper
to mean more to me
than it ever did to you.

Paper chains is such a great title. It really is just a piece of paper.
If we aren't married in our hearts then the paper means nothing more than you can file taxes together.

You are welcome of course. :D
I like the honest and directness in the poem. A lot of hidden story in the statement. Funny how people are kinder when they need something. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry my friend.

Thank you for your kind words.
Relationship is more than just a contract, or a pledge, or a certificate. If its not true love and no commitment any relationship is bound to fail and lost. Paper may not mean a thing. If its not written in the tablets of our hearts.

A wonderful insight, thank you.
Nice! Yes, paper can hardly change how a person is going to teach you. People treat you the way they want to moment from moment and a paper will have little affect on their future behavior.

Love the entire poem, but these lines are my favorite...

lies
on paper; promises
you made and broke
like brittle toothpicks

I think many can relate to your poem..I know I did. Great writing.

This is wonderful, a touching piece,
"wrap
me up in paper chains
and fool's gold
it won't change a thing."

How true... you write with power, I love it!

Thank you very much.
KL, you are a phenomenal writer and sister from another universe. Seriously, though I wasn't married, I've had similar experiences. Screw them all! xo :)

Nope, God had nothing to do with it, for sure. :)
Hmm I think they just like the power that that piece of paper gives them over us.Screw them I say when they had us they didn't want us but when we no longer belong to them we are all they can see.
