Reflections

Reflections

A Chapter by Nix is typing...
"

A poem by Nix and Ts

"

The mirrors are everywhere

They speak to me hourly

Every reflection every glare

Her voice echoes powerfully

She looks at me

"I don't wanna be you anymore"

"That dress makes you look like a w***e"

"You're fat and you're ugly"

She calls out so smugly

I smashed the glass in my bath

But it just became 10,000 reflections more

Each with its wrath

A collection of voices

"You know what the choice is;

You can cry and be hideous

Or you can take one of us

In your ugly little hand"

But I took a stand

STOP SCREAMING AT ME!!!

I'm not going to flee

As much as they sing

With their vicious mocking

I can’t do what they say

I’m here to stay

But the way that they bleat

They seem to deem my sanity obsolete

I can't bow in defeat

Is there no serenity

Can I listen for eternity?

I need to change the scene

Wake up from this dream

But mirrors are everywhere

I can't lose her stare

It's a constant nightmare

Which leaves me in despair

 this malaise doesn’t care

She thinks I’m too dumb

To be able to fathom

So I try walking to the beat of my own drum

Some days I can make it

But usually, I fake it

Looks like she's here to stay

And all I can do is look away

Okay, so MOST of the credit goes to Ts (T.S. Ulmus) on this one, it was my seed, but he turned it into this beautiful lotus, most of this poem is his, and I think he did a spectacular job, tell us what y'all think!

Top marks you two. It doesn't matter who planted the seed and who raised it to fruition, all that matters is the end result and this result raises the bar.

One thing I have learned after all these years is that ... it is not the package but the contents that matter...

Your collaborations are very good.

Take care

Such as profound piece. Sadly, many have self image issues . It seems to be a real struggle. This poem captures it.
Nicely done, to the two of you.

I like it. It's a good reflection on a person struggling with their body image and self-esteem. There are some interesting lines throughout that are really powerful. Good job on this piece!

I don't see the speaker as fat and ugly at all...I think this is similar to Plath's "Mirror"---
for her it was looking into the mirror and seeing what was inside of her...and she didn't like what she saw.
and as the comedian Steven Wright said..."I broke a mirror in my house and am supposed to get seven years of bad luck, but my lawyer thinks he can get me five"----
I do have an understanding of this one...looks are much more than physical...self-effacement often happens and we want to hide.
