Blood Mountain

Blood Mountain

A Chapter by Nix is typing...

A poem by T.S. Ulmus and Nix

Image result for mountain couple hiking

They fled from the dread of society’s disapproval

Star-crossed lovers moved by flight from the world’s glares and whispers

Whiskers of light shone bright through autumnal haze

In the maze of the woods at the foot of Blood Mountain

They explored the terrain in the cool balmy air

Ever aware of the flare from autumnal brush

No rush through the kaleidoscope of color

Lovers’ hands brushed titillatingly against each other as they wandered higher

They couldn't tire of teasing and pinching and laughing all-day

He swatted away a bug when drawn by her squeal

It got real as she stared into his green eyes

A sunrise in temperature, her skin grows hot

It's not just his gaze but the ways he can flare

They dared to climb high where the sky

Comes to touch Blood Mountain

Intertwined fingers and glances that linger

As they trek ever higher to the spire

The passionate fire within them only grows

Love flows between them and her heart pounds in her ears

They hear leaves crunch under every foot

At the summit, they set camp and start fire

To retire and watch the sun set before them

Burning stems of pine crackle and give chorus

Subtle winds sing a song as hands join and fingers intertwine

Divine feelings of flushed cheeks and pulsating hearts

He starts to get closer and closer

She couldn't close her eyes, passions rise

And she finally leans in for the kiss

This was the moment building all day far away

At the top of distant blood mountain

An eruption of sublime interruption of time

Tucked under a blanket of the stars soft glow

They knew the terrain but hidden lands still remain

Fresh lands of flesh to explore

They implore and desire for an unending night

But the light finally ends the joyous conversation

While they sit and stare into each other in contemplation

As the sun finds the peaks of Blood Mountain once more

Well done you two, ... a good description of a romantic evening that plays out so nicely. You took us on a trip hand in hand with your descriptions. The rhyme scheme worked well, especially the slant rhyme ... hard to tell where one started and the other stepped in.

A good collaboration

really nice work. your imagery paints a very beautiful and passionate scene.

Wow, what an amazing poem.
I live in Colorado, and people here are obsessed with summiting "14ers" which is hard as hell. I think I would rather climb Blood Mountain.

You painted so much vivid imagery, I really felt the heat! I think it is so refreshing how you described the love scene metaphorically and somewhat subtly. Some of my favorite lines are, "Intertwined fingers and glances that linger / They knew the terrain but hidden lands still remain /Fresh lands of flesh to explore"

I think it is so cool that you collabed with another poet. Solid work you two!!

Amazing use of words my dear friend.
"Burning stems of pine crackle and give chorus
Subtle winds sing a song as hands join and fingers intertwine
Divine feelings of flushed cheeks and pulsating hearts"
The above lines were my favorite. First touch of hand, first caress of gentle kiss and the warm embrace. Our miracles. Reading the outstanding poetry make me want to create. Thank you for sharing the poetry.

You took me on a brief vacation from my humdrum day and single life.. I enjoyed all the imagery, thank you!

This is very, very real. Many times a glance into someone's eyes can be more intimate that anything physical. I really loved how you used the imagery of the mountain to mirror the emotions in the heart, and the passion corresponding to the sun. That was sublime.
