My Own Name

I keep forgetting my own name!!

Though it's the same as it ever was,

It doesn't seem to stick to me

There's some trickery in my mind

I don't think I sold it

I just can't hold it.

If only I could find the right name

Or claim one to fit

Maybe I could tame,

Try to contain, or just see,

The demons that control me.

The ones that live in my brain

And fill my head,

The ones that beat me with dread

And made me wish I were dead

But I keep forgetting my own name

When I walk around a party

Red cup in my hand

Full of Bacardi

I can't stand that my senses

Wind barbed wire on the fences

Then pull the husk from the rind

Whispering demons are unkind

But caught from behind

The rust of the divine

Can bring the taste of my name

So Sour

But I can only cower in the dark

In a park down the street

From where those people meet

Yet I’m not to blame

For forgetting my own name

No one else seems to know it either

So let me just sit down

Just need a little breather

I’m getting tired of this game

As I try to remember

My own name

You are welcome my friend.
I wonder if having names places limits on us sometimes. I like this poem. The rhythm is very good, and the words express more that just superficiality. Saying "Who am I?" is a heavy, heavy question that can take a lifetime to answer. I love this poem if only for its subject. Nice work! :)

Thanks for the read and review, Kaylor :)))
pretty seamless collab. you two. the rap style has a very definite beat .. the struggle for self identity with lack of self confidence and depression can be a nightmare says i! Erikson's Identity vs. Role Confusion occurs between the ages of 12-18. Turbulent time for teens to be figuring that out. Compounded these days by illegal mind altering drugs and peer pressure that to much of the time is destructive. Some of us never get through that phase ...:( an important theme .. the first person perspective makes it personal as I read. I feel the turmoil at the soul of this poem. I am not a fan of rap; rhyming too easily touches on being trite; this one has such a strong cadence accented by those simple rhymes drives it for me. that and the emotive quality and important, relavant social statement on that part of life. If teens do not successfully navigate through their identity "crisis" society at large suffers too. well done! you tow have one "voice" in this

Thank you so much for your read and time to make this review, Einstein Noodle!!! :)))))
This happens to me a lot so I relate very much. I forget my own name in ecstatic moments, in crowds of friends and especially after a drink or two. Happens to me when I scribble too. Your introspective writes are just great. Keep it up.

Welcome! Keep up the writing!
Superb!I love how the word "name" registers in my brain or other readers as something than what the word really means! I'm also curious how Bacardi tastes.

you guys make a really good poet, together...the one voice of two shines.
Yes, What's my name?
sometimes we have so many different personalities, like a Sybil....
so many sides and some of those sides don't recognize the others...the evil parts of us
are negated by the good, and yet, they are still there, they rise to the surface at different times.
I think everyone has more than one persona...
Well done, guys.

I like this a lot with hints of darkness and the demon/demons we have lurching out from our back controlling us, whispering bad advice in our absorbing ears. Nice flow, good.
