![]() Chapter 1A Chapter by KikaiIT’S THE DAY before school starts. I was so ready, so excited. I couldn’t wait to see all my friends again, and to meet new ones too. It’s not like I didn’t like my old ones, but new ones are just as fun. I had already picked out my first-day-of-school outfit: Skinny jeans, a cute, red, slim shirt, and a Beatles jacket with matching converse shoes. Nothing could ruin this moment… or so I thought. My phone rang, it was Bea. Bea Soles is one of my bestest friends. She’s number 2, right behind Jennifer, but Kaitlin was catching up fast. Maybe she’ll steal Bea’s spot. “Hello?” I say with cheer. But the response on the other line was not what I wanted to hear. “O-o-oh my G-God. I hate my l-life!” Bea was crying. And whenever she cried, I knew it was either due to a fight with her parents, complaining about some other person, or problems with her boyfriend, which was probably the case. “What’s wrong, why are you crying??” “I-I just hate, everything. No one listens, no one cares, no one helps. And Nick is ticking me off.” Nick is her boyfriend. They’ve been together for almost 2 years now, but they’ve been fighting a lot so everyone thinks they’re only going to last until sophmore year… But no one in they’re right mind would tell them that. “What did he do? Can I help? Or wait, you don’t want my help.” There was kind of a pause. Then Bea continued, sobbing away. “Yeah. Just, I need to talk to someone. So just listen.” And so I did. During the summer Bea and I had a fight. It was the biggest fight we’d had since we met, which was 3 years ago. I tried to help her with her problems, but apparently I made things worse. But it wasn’t my fault, and I knew it wasn’t. She’s just the kind of person that doesn’t like it when people say things she doesn’t want to hear. So at that point I just told her, “Alright. You won’t take my advice? Then I won’t give it to you anymore. I’ll stop helping you then.” I always had her back, supported her when people talked about her, and I told her things she wanted to hear, but that got her NO WHERE. So I decided to just lay down the law and tell her exactly what she’s doing wrong and what she should do about it. But that just got her angry, which is ok, because now I know what kind of friend she really is… Hmm, maybe Kaitlin already took her spot. Yes, that’s right. Kaitlin is now my second best friend. Bea can be number three. But I don’t think she deserves that spot either, but I won’t tell her that. She could beat me up. No, she would beat me up. After listening to her story (which was the same as every other Nick story) I tried to comfort her with more words that she wanted to hear, because I was tired of the fighting and anger and her getting mad at me. I told her I couldn’t help her, give her advice, but instead I told her what I would do. I don’t think that changed anything though. I said that I would talk to Nick, not just call other people and complain. If I didn’t like something, I’d do something about it. I would also start to slow things down, because Bea always tries to speed things up. She is growing up too fast, I wish I told her that a loooong time ago though. That would have saved her from lots of problems. She wants to marry Nick. She loves him, or so she says. Nick told me the same thing, they want to get married after high school and attend college together. I laughed the first time they told me that, I thought it was pretty funny. But now, even through all the problems they’ve been having, they still insist on marrying each other. It’s not going to work though, Bea gets mad when other girls talk to him. Even when I talk to him. She tells him what to do and what not to do, she’s the boss. I don’t think that’s a good relationship, they should be able to trust each other, and if that’s not working out now then what more when they get married? “I see..” Bea says with a sigh. She finally stopped crying, thank God.. “Well, don’t worry. Just try not to think about it that much. You don’t want to start your first day of high school with problems, do you?” I try to keep her relaxed. “Yeah I guess. I’ll just see you tomorrow then.” “Ok see you then. Bye.” “Bye.” I go back to packing things for tomorrow, making sure I have everything set. After that I take my 10-minute shower, then change into some clean yet comfortable clothes and head off to bed. I dream of all the fun times I’ll have and the new people I’ll meet. And hopefully, that special someone. © 2010 Kikai |
