![]() Chapter 14A Chapter by KikaiAFTER LUNCH I was confronted by Mason and Diane in my college-prep class. Diane seemed excited, and Mason on the other hand… Disgusted? No, that’s not the word. Upset? I think so. “Hey.” Diane said smoothly, as if she didn’t know what she had just witnessed at lunch. “So that guy earlier,” “THAT WAS JUSTIN!” I blurted out. “I wasn’t going to ask that, but ok thanks for telling me.” I slumped in my chair. I was so eager to tell everyone about him, because I must admit, that moment in the hallway was just like magic. And now that I think about it, that’s the only time I enjoyed spending with him. “So, what did you guys talk about? Did you ask him to homecoming?” Diane asked eagerly. She scooted up to my face. “Come on now, no! I didn’t ask him, yet.” I want to wait until Justin comes back to school and ask him. I think it would be a little awkward, asking Kevin, with all these mixed feelings about him inside me. But I was sure about Justin. I think. I don’t know. UAGGGH!! I looked back at poor old Mason, seeming a little sad at our conversation. Had I really made him jealous? I didn’t mean to; The two of us have little boy-fight-overs almost all the time, but I guess this time it’s different. I was going to ask him if he was going to homecoming, but then I remembered… he wouldn’t go even if anyone asked him. “Doesn’t Justin have this class with us.” Mason finally broke out. “Oh, yeah you’re right.” He and I stared endlessly at the door, waiting for him to walk into the class all smooth-like. All the girls would stare at him in awe as he pondered around for a seat, I would ignore him like always, and Mason would jaw-drop just like he would do if it were Justin walking in the room. But he didn’t show. It was already 20 minutes passed the bell, and I knew he wouldn’t be coming.
The school day was finally over. I ended up walking home with Mason and Issac. I introduced Macy to Diane, since they both walk the same way home, I wanted Macy to have someone to talk to. The two girls really appreciated it and I felt proud. I noticed Nick and Bea walking in front of us (far in front of us), then they stopped, so we stopped too. “Wait, is he… Is Nick going to break it?” Issac asked nervously. “I don’t know. I was suppose to do it!” I responded, this time in fright. Mason gulped. “So if this is it then, won’t that mean she’ll…” He shivered. “She’ll chase us down. She’ll kill us. She’ll kill us all!” The 3 of us huddled together and watched the 2 play some type of confusing charades. Nick had his head down and took Bea’s hand. Bea seemed happy at first, but then when Nick sighed, her face went pale. Did she know what was coming for her? Then there was talking, then nodding, then some hand motions. Then before we knew it, Bea was crying and running away from Nick. “I guess he did it.” Issac said, feeling kind of relieved that Bea didn’t end up running towards us in anger. “Poor Nick. Let’s go cheer him up.” The 3 of us ran up towards him. He was sitting on the corner of the street, right next to the stop sign, just like how I had found Justin on the corner of my street the day we first met. “It’s ok man,” Issac put his hand on Nick’s shoulder. “there are better girls than her. Way better.” Mason nodded. “Really, I can’t believe you waited this long to break up with her though.” Nick sighed. “Yeah, I know… But, I just can’t believe it’s over.” “It’s ok! Most of your troubles are gone now.” The four of us walked home together, getting things off our chest about Bea that we didn’t want to tell while Nick and her were still dating. I hated talking about her though, I felt as if I was saying bad things behind her back. But then I thought, I’m not lying. This is how she acts truthfully and this is what I think about her truthfully, so I’m not really talking about her because I’m saying the truth. It didn’t make me feel as better, but I didn’t feel too bad. “So man, I thought you wanted Aika to break it to her?” Mason said when we got to his street. “Well, I thought about what Aika told me. I didn’t want her to get hit or beat up, I’d be such a terrible friend if that happened, plus I’d be a terrible man if I couldn’t say it myself. And that’s why I decided to do it.” “Ah…” Issac, Mason, and I said in unison. “Well that was pretty manly of you, I think.” Mason said, and walked up to his house. Then for the next 3 blocks it was just Issac, Nick, and I. Mostly we talked about homecoming. Nick didn’t want to go anymore, he said if he went alone it would feel odd and if he found someone to go with, it would just be too soon. Issac was working up the nerve to ask Macy, she was his new crush. And as for me, I told them that I would wait for the right time to ask ‘Justin’, like when he comes back to school. “Well, let’s all hope for the best!” Issac said. He and Nick were going home (they live on the same street). “We’ll hope! Bye bye!” I shouted from the intersection; I waved and ran off.
A week had passed, and neither twin showed up at school. I got worried that maybe they switched schools and I would never be able to see Justin, or oddly, Kevin, ever again! There were still 3 more weeks left until homecoming and I had to get a date! Issac finally asked Macy, she said that she’d think about it. We’re all hoping for a yes. Diane decided to go with Austin, one of my other friends, but we barely see each other anymore, but in middle school we used to hang out a lot. Mason told me he was just staying home that day… Aww. I really wanted him to go. So all was left was for me to get my date. Hopefully, he’ll come to school soon. © 2010 Kikai |
