Writing, writing, writing.

Omg, I just wanna go to sleep.

Sometimes it’s just better to close your eyes and let sleep take over

“Close the damn computer and go to sleep already, Nix”
I keep trying to tell myself

My body fighting sleep as I type on

Writing, writing, writing.

My stomach emits a guttural growl

“Oh, s**t, have I eaten today?”

I ask myself

“No, you’ve been too busy writing”

“For god’s sake, Nix, it’s 5:18 in the afternoon,

Take better care of yourself ”

But all I want to do is write.

Stay up until four in the morning

Staring at my computer screen

Writing, writing, writing.

It’s not like I make money from it

It’s not like I’m super famous or anything

I mean, sure, the masses are important to me,

But it’s always been like that, I’m a gen z

Born into a world of social media and body dysmorphia

So I was bound to catch it

Bound to want approval and hate myself when I didn’t get it

I guess that’s the curse of being seventeen, huh?

Life seems so big and important, 

Always worrying about the future

Always working

Always writing

Writing, writing, writing.

D****t, I just want to go to sleep.

Just go to sleep already, Nix ...

I wrote this while I was drifting off. It popped in my head and I had to get it down immediately.

I know, right!? Writing is something that I'm doing CONSTANTLY. Even when I've had a few too many, I'm still writing, LOL, it might not all be literate, but I'm still writing. Thank you so much for the time to read and review!!!

HAHA! I love that "I'm addicked like a nympho hor..." (Don't worry, I am too lmao) that ellipses had me laughing. I'm really glad you liked it. I like a lot of the stuff you post. Some of it sits in my library, some if I've read and some of it I haven't but just know, that I really like your rhyming stories. I think they're cool. :)

Good job Nix. Funny, when I was a boy ... long before computers ... I was what they call a voracious reader ... stay up all night with a flashlight under the covers and read. It got to the point that when I was older I could and would read 5 or 6 novels on a weekend. It made me a better writer.

At your age I think you are discovering that when it comes to writing it cannot be turned on & off, it just is. Call it the call of the Muse ... get used to it ... she (or he) will always be sitting at the back of your mind ready to bedevil you with thoughts and ideas.

Carry a notebook and jot everything down, no matter how simple it seems. You've a long way to go and I have a feeling your writing will only get better (not that it's not good now) and I look forward to reading more.

Oh wow, five to six novels? In one weekend? That's so many!!! 😲 You must be a really fast reader. It takes me like two weeks to finish a novel (what with time being so scarce and everything).

This is really well done, it flows perfectly and really tells of the author's drifting thoughts while staying on course. I too feel like when I'm writing time seems to disappear along with any other task I had to do that day!

Haha! I'm so glad you could relate to this Haley. I was seriously almost about to drift off to dreamland at five in the afternoon on a Sunday when I wrote this, but then I was like "Nope, f*ck it, I'm writing this down." So I opened google docs and said "OMGGG I JUST WANNA GO TO SLEEP" and that's how this poem was born! Haha, thanks for the read and review, Haley :) It's much appreciated!!!

Being desperate for approval will only lead to mediocrity. Don't care about the approval of others, just express your unique voice and everything else will follow.

I am a night owl,so I often write into the early hours of the morning. When I was 17, sometimes I wouldn't sleep at all and stay up for 2-3 days. So, I can understand the sentiment of the poem.

Thank you very much, Danny :) I think I have felt my writing getting a bit mediocre these days, I was just telling Ts (my main collaborator) that I felt it was getting mediocre and that I think I was a better writer when I first started to write on the cafe. Before I got all those comments about having an inconsistent meter in my poems and nitpicky stuff like that, I feel like they've really changed my writing. (I didn't feel like having a meter in this one) But I've gotten to the point where I just ignore the comments about my inconsistent meter and just write. I'm a big night owl, I stay up a lot, usually 'till like six in the morning and wake up sometime around 12 (I go to a charter school so I do school online whenever I feel) and when I wake up, the first thing I do is open my computer and start writing.
