Coffee

A Chapter by Dave Brown

Walking toward Tim Hortons

Having coffee on my mind

Hoping to settle my shaky nerves

After the daily grind

But when reaching for my wallet

What I was to find

I’d left it somewhere else

Upsetting my state of mind

In a mad fit of coffee frenzy

I hid along the pathway

With my intention being to

Grab someone else’s coffee

When it was my way, they’d stray

Thinking this, with no cash outlay

Would cure my coffee craze

Ensuring a good conclusion

To the end of my long day

Seeing a sipping soul sauntering

Toward me on their way

Carrying coffee in each hand

On a loosely held drink tray

I saw a chance to grab and run

It being no more than child’s play

Thinking to just take one cup

And quickly, be on my way

Hiding later in the woods

My success wrapped in glee

Pleased I’d solved my coffee craze

And had got away scot free

But of course

Success has no guarantee

And instead of coffee

What I’d swiped

Was some god-awful tea

Lol!!! How very unCanadian of you to swipe someone else's beverage.
Loved the humorous twist. I found myself in this same predicament once upon a time.
I'd ordered my coffee with no wallet in my person. A kind gentleman behind me stepped up.
Thanks for the chuckle. 🙂☕
