Ch. 61 Opposites Attract

Ch. 61 Opposites Attract

A Chapter by theladygraceling

I've never been close to my mother.
I've always been more like my dad
and Johnny has been more like her.

When I was little,
she always preferred Johnny
because I would argue with her every chance I got,
I never listened to what she said,
I'd get into her clothes and makeup and mess up everything,
I'd pout whenever she tried to be nice to me.

We have never got along well.
We've always disagreed on everything.

Especially Charlotte.

The first time my mom saw Charlotte
with her old bomber jacket,
band t-shirts,
ripped up jeans,
those tall, black boots,
and that bright shock of pink hair,
she just stood there spluttering,
unsure of what to say.

Then afterwards,
she accused me of just picking up this new friend
as some sort of act of rebellion.

She never thought I'd have a friend like Charlotte.
I think she hoped I'd never have a friend like Charlotte.

Charlotte was too different,
too extreme,
and too wild,
and too unlike my mom
for my mom to like her.

But I liked that.

Charlotte was nothing like me.
On paper, we never should have gotten along.

It baffled everyone that we became friends.

We were so opposite
in every single way.

But maybe that's why she was perfect for me.
