Hidden Among

Hidden Among

A Chapter by BrynnaW.

A gold embroidered mask covered my face. I was hidden among the people. No one could notice my wanted face with the mask on. I smiled; the people had no idea that there was a murderer inches away from them. My eyes searched the crowd for my target. He was sitting on a couch with women on both sides of him. His breath smelled heavily of alcohol but I didn't care. All I cared about was the death of him. Slowly, I walked toward him. The man didn't notice me probably because he was too busy focusing on the woman that stroked his face. She whispered in his ear and the man seemed to agree. The man stood up and I immediately stopped walking to him. Now was my chance... I could shoot him... But in front of everybody?
"Everybody, thank you so much for coming but I'm afraid this party is ending early. Goodbye." He watched everyone carefully but I still refused to move. The man looked at me skeptically until I left his house. Everyone drove off but I looked through the windows and saw my target and the woman running up the stairs. I opened the front door because the man was too happy to remember to lock it.
Quietly, I walked up the stairs. To my left was a door that was opened up a crack. Inside, two figures were sleeping soundly. I pushed the door open and the man opened his eyes. He looked at me for a second before getting out of the bed. I watched him carefully to see if he was going to try and grab a weapon. He walked to me, closed the door, and stared at me in the hallway. The man lifted up my mask and threw it on the ground.
"So, Kailey Williams or Michelle Reed?" He asked and I knew that he was basically asking if I was innocent or a murderer.
"Michelle Reed." I answered because I had no intention of letting the man live.
"Ah... You've come to kill me."
"First, I want answers and don't lead me to another person like the Duncans did."
"You killed the Duncans. Well, I might say that you did me a favor. I -----"
"I'm not interested in you. Where is the boss?" I snarled.
"I'm sorry but I cannot help you."
I held a gun to his head, "Really? What about now? Do you want to answer me?"
"Well, that gun does seem rather convincing... But, I'm afraid, I don't exactly know where the entrance is... I just know that it is underground and that the entrance is connected with another major company that hires agents." The man tried to shield himself.
"You're kidding? So, like the CIA or the FBI? Is there a building for them here?"
     "I told you, I don't know."
     "Would the boss be there?"
"He should be. Now, please, let me go back."
"One more thing... Why did you join the business?"
"Just like everybody else, I had the need for money and also because my father had been in the business."
"Thank you... That is all." I pulled the trigger and I ran without looking back. Every piece of information I had received confused me. Why would the CIA or FBI be involved? 'The mystery person' was right... This was bigger than I thought it was. I tried to piece everything together as I rode away on my motorcycle.

Again I am seeing the development of the main character. Early in this book she shuddered at the thought of being a murderer. Now she is totally confident with it. I can't wait to find out everything about this buisness, but all the same I think the way you are doing it is best, just a little at a time, leaving us in suspense. This is way bigger than I thought it was. When I started reading this I thought it was just going to be between her and the mystery person. Boy was I wrong. Great job again, can't wait for the next chapter. Sorry that was so long. :)
