These Eyes

My eyes were bloodshot going on a week. They felt heavy and they burned; like someone was putting out cigarettes on the back of them. I was scared at first, but I eventually embraced it. What if I went blind. I would be "the blind guy" in my town. People would know me. Someone would take care of me. The rest of my life spent asking a helper to get me this or get me that. "Describe to me the sunset," I'd say; my glossy eyes staring up at the ceiling. Then yesterday I woke up and they were completely back to how they had been all my life. Now I'm back to being the same guy I was before. I'm just another person in this town.
