Chapter 87

Chapter 87

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo walks into her office. Yeardleigh says “Hey, boss. How are you?”

Indigo says “I’m good. How about you?”

“Moxie’s pissed at me, again. I don’t know why, but you don’t want to hear about this.”

            “Why not?”

“It’s stupid, and you have enough going on.”

“I never have too much going on if you need to talk. Besides, I could use the distraction, so come on, out with it.”

“Really?” Indigo nods. “Ok. She keeps bitching at me for no reason. I mean, sure, we’re always mean to each other, but this is different.”

            “What’s changed?”

            “I don’t know.”

            “You sure?”

“I guess I may have been, slightly, freaking out about Iona recently.”

            “Have you introduced them?”

            “Not yet.”

            “Why not?”

“Well, I haven’t exactly seen Iona, or heard from her, since she dropped me off here.”

            “Have you tried contacting her?”

“No. I don’t want to seem pushy.”

“I’m going to assume Moxie’s not being helpful.”

“She only says things like “It’s your life”, “What’s it got to do with me?”, and “Why are you even asking me?”.”

“Sounds like she’s pushing you to make a decision without her.”

“I don’t get why. She’s always helped me before. It’s almost like she’s jealous.”

            “Maybe she is.”

“Moxie? She wouldn’t be. I mean, it’s Moxie.”

“Not like that. She’s very protective of you and, correct me if I’m wrong, you don’t take that much interest in her.”

“I can’t afford to take interest in her.”

            “She’s your best friend.”

“And she’s also the first girl I had a crush on.”

“Does she know?” Yeardleigh shakes her head. “Are you over her?”

“I think so. Nothing ever happened between us for me to be sure either way.”

“And you want to start seeing Iona anyway?”

“At least she might like me back. Although I don’t have the best track record with that. Besides, it’s Moxie.”

“At least you know you’ll get an honest opinion from her.”

“Even if I didn’t ask for it.”

            “Are you over me?”

            “She told you?”

“May have mentioned it, while telling me not to hurt you.” Yeardleigh bangs her head on the desk. “So, are you?”

            “Over you?” Indigo nods. “Yeah.”

“You sure? Nothing ever happened between us.”

            “I know, but that’s different. I can’t explain it.”

“As always, my advice would be to talk to her. Let her talk to Iona. Moxie is a good judge of people, you should give her more credit. She’d never let anyone hurt you.”

            “I know.”

“Good. Now that’s settled, I should get to work. Is there anything I should know?”

“Ms Platt wants to see you. She said she’d call you when she’s ready.”

            “Anything else?”

“Yes. If you want to leave the building, you will be escorted by a member of security.”

“Seriously?” Yeardleigh nods. “Am I still allowed visitors?”

“The non-client list had been forwarded for approval.”

            “My God. This is ridiculous.”

“Ms Platt is worried about you. It won’t be as bad as you think.”

            “Let’s hope not.”

            Indigo enters her office.
