"Life in Postmortem" certainly seems to be referring to some sort of serious, life-altering injury.
Puts me in mind of unfortunate young soldiers, everywhere, who've been so badly wounded that their lives will, apparently, never be the same--worse, do not seem as if they will ever be what they should or could have been. And yet, miraculously, some of them manage to excel.
A succinct but decidedly significant bit of work, WM.

this brings to mind a coming-of-age story; or a life-altering event in someone's life that brings knowledge and wisdom that is not always wanted and the person's life is changed forever.
